Globe 24-7 in partnership with a key client in East Africa are working together to source experienced and qualified talent to join their operation.
The Role
The Operations Manager is accountable for managing all mining, engineering, maintenance, marine, mine technical/ geology and metallurgy departments. The role reports to the General Manager and is responsible for relieving the GM when off site.
The Responsibilities
- Ensuring compliance with safe operating practices across the mine
- Ensuring compliance with approved environmental conditions across the mine
- Ensuring mining operations impact on community is minimised
- Delivering productivity levels at or in excess of forecast KPI’s
- Implementing projects aimed at reaching nameplate capacity and optimising mine performance
- Planning and scheduling all aspects of the mining operations to deliver budgeted objectives
- Building organisational capability within the mine at frontline supervisor and operator level to deliver budget objectives
- Developing and implementing a continuous improvement plan
- Managing and developing mining team, providing technical and operational leadership to the team
- Assisting in the implementation of nationalisation programs
- Managing and developing relationships with the management team
- Identifying material risks and designing and implementing strategies and systems to manage and insure such risks
- Leading cost reduction initiatives
The Requirements
- Mechanical engineering / mining engineering / process engineering qualification
- Previous expat experience
- Minimum 15 – 20 years of experience (8-10 years’ operational experience in mining operations)
- Excellent planning, organisation skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple responsibilities and the self-discipline to achieve tasks on time with minimal or no supervision
- Strong leadership capabilities
- Effective communication, influencing capabilities
- Knows how business works – commercially astute
- Significant stakeholder management
- Significant experience of managing people and developing teams
