2 New Government Job Opportunities at Mtwara MikindaniI Municipal Council – WATENDAJI Executive Officers
Overview
Mtwara (Portuguese: Montewara) is the capital city of Tanzania’s Mtwara Region in the country’s southeast. It was designed and built in the 1940s as the export terminal for the catastrophic Tanganyika groundnut initiative, but it was mostly forgotten after the scheme was abandoned in 1951. The metropolis is spread out across a broad region and is designed to house up to 200,000 people. The current population is roughly 108000 people. Mtwara has a deep-water port that can accommodate ocean-going boats, as well as a number of substantial municipal facilities, including a post office, as part of the development linked with the unsuccessful Tanganyika groundnut program. Recent port upgrades have allowed large cargo ships to dock there.
Transportation
Road: Considering its isolated location in southern Tanzania, Mtwara has decent transportation connectivity. It is connected to Dar es Salaam and Lindi to the north, Masasi inland, and Newala in-land to the west via paved highways. Beyond Masasi, the road is recently paved for about 60 kilometers to Tunduru and the Unity Bridge, which offers access to Mozambique. .
The A19 highway connects it to Mbamba Bay on Lake Malawi in the west. It has an airport with a paved runway capable of accommodating medium-sized passenger planes. Precision Air operates a daily morning flight between Mtwara Airport and Dar es Salaam, while Air Tanzania operates an afternoon flight. The flight lasts around one hour. The airport’s landing facilities prevent planes from using it when it is obscured by mist.
